Gatsby in the end does not get the girl, had he not been so gauche socially and had he had a better grip on reality, he might have accomplished his goal of getting Daisy. But, would the author have ever let a profound symbol such as Gatsby change and win?

Gatsby's first attempts to try and regain contact with Daisy are through the gaudy parties he holds. These parties are open to who ever arrives, and generally attracts a "diverse" crowd. James Gatsby believes that the parties will attract Daisy to his place as many other celebrities do attend. What Gatsby does not see, is that Daisy is not the type to just arrive at a party uninvited...
